What to Write:

The key to writing a good thank you card for any occasion is to make it personal. Pre-printed or typed thank you cards lack the human touch that is felt from handwriting, so always hand write and sign the cards. Remember to use the word we, not I, as you are writing the card as a couple.

Messages in thank you cards do not have to be creative or long, just so long as the receiver feels that they got a personal note and you appreciate their gift and presence. Here are some ideas for messages :

• Boxed gift: Specifically mention the type of gift and how it will be used. For example: “We love our new George Foreman Grill and can’t wait to have you over for dinner when we use it!”
• Cash gift: Do not mention the specific amount, but use words such as generous. For example: “thank you for your extremely generous gift, it is very much appreciated as we begin our new home together”
• Wedding Attendees: If the guest attended the wedding, try to think of a moment you remember them at the wedding. For example “I loved watching you dance all night at the reception!”
• Non attendees: If a guest sent a gift or card but did not attend the wedding, make sure you make a note of it so you don’t thank them for attending on the card. Instead, write a personal message thanking them for their continued support. For example: “You have always been such a support to my parents and we appreciate you thinking of us on our special day”
• Sharing pictures or Website: If you have a wedding website or blog where guests can view pictures from the wedding, you can preprint labels with the website on it and stick them into thank you cards. Guests can share memories and those who did not attend can still enjoy the special day.

These step-by-step instructions will show you how to make Marinag’s gorgeous Tissue Pomanders.

Supplies:

Styrofoam Balls: Sold at craft stores such as Michaels.  For this guide, Marina used 3” balls.

Tissue Paper: For each pomander, you’ll need approximately 72 sheets of tissue paper cut to be 5” x 7”

Scissors

Wire: Sold at hardware stores

Wire Cutters: Sold at hardware stores

Cost: $2 - $5 each

Cut each sheet of tissue paper to 5” x 7”.

Stack 4 sheets of tissue and fan fold all the way up.

Tie some wire around the middle of the tissue. You’ll need to play around with it to get a feel for how much you’ll need. Be sure to leave a little extra since that’s what you stick in the Styrofoam

Start pulling the tissue sheets up one at a time. Left then Right.  Continue until all the tissue is pulled up and it looks like a flower.

Stick the wire under the flower in the Styrofoam ball.  Keep placing flowers all the way the ball until it’s full.  Play around with the placement to make the flower as tight or loose as you’d like. 

A super-affordable (and quite charming) alternative to a large, single centerpiece is a cluster of small containers in the center of your table. For this project, we use plain glass juice glasses, but mini vases and even votive holders can have the same effect. Simply cover the container with decorative paper or fabric, and fill them each with inexpensive flowers, and you’ve got a pretty centerpiece in no time. Here are some ideas to get you started!

Cheesecloth is available in most grocery stores, and is a very budget-friendly fabric that’s perfect to use for your wedding - it’s white, soft, and gauzy, and looks so pretty wrapped around our glasses! White affords you the ability to pair it with any color or colors, and we thought that cheery yellow and white tulips would be a happy match.

Wrap patterned fabric around your vessels and pair it with flowers in a contrasting color for a sophisticated look for your table. Even everyday, grocery-store bought flowers like mums look gorgeous when they’re clustered tightly with flowers of a similar hue.

If you’re using three or more mini-containers, covering each one in a variety of shades from the same color family creates a fabulous look for your table. We kept our flowers white with this arrangement so that our beautiful color palette could take center stage.

Scrapbook paper comes in an endless variety of prints and patterns; choose your favorite complimentary sheets and combine them for a funky, modern look. Fill them with flowers that mimic the colors on the paper.

These centerpiece containers can do double-duty as favors or even table numbers; here, we covered our glasses in kraft paper and used adhesive letters to spell out the table number.

This cake was made from a local Whole Foods for only 50 dollars! Shop around at places you wouldn’t usually think to get a cake and you will be surprised!
